According to reports, the orca—nicknamed “Titan”, a 20-year-old male with a history of unpredictable behavior—lunged toward the edge of the pool during a break in the performance. The trainer’s 9-year-old daughter, who was visiting backstage, had wandered slightly too close. What happened next was almost too fast to process.
“The orca grabbed her by the leg and pulled her into the tank,” one witness said. Screams erupted as trainers and emergency staff rushed to intervene. A life preserver was thrown, and one trainer dove in immediately, risking his own life to pry the child from Titan’s jaws.
“It was sheer terror,” said Maria Holt, a guest from Phoenix who had been sitting in the front row. “One moment, she was waving to her dad. The next, she disappeared under water.”
