Indonesia: 45-Year-Old Woman Killed by Five-Metre Python in South Sulawesi

A tragic incident occurred in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province, where a 45-year-old woman was killed by a five-metre python while returning from her garden.

The victim, a resident of Sidenreng Rappang district, had told her husband on Thursday that she planned to sell chilies to a local collector. When she failed to return home, her husband and relatives began searching for her, according to village head Suardi Rosi.

The following morning, villagers discovered a large python near the woman’s abandoned belongings. Fearing the worst, they killed the snake and cut it open, where they found the woman’s body inside.

Local residents are familiar with the presence of pythons in the area, but such fatal encounters remain extremely rare. The discovery has left the community shocked and saddened.

Authorities have reminded villagers to remain cautious when traveling through rural areas, especially in locations where large snakes are known to live.
