Newly elected Pope Leo’s incredible salary has been revealed.
After the death of Pope Francis last month, aged 88, many were left wondering who would replace him in the important role as head of the Church.
On May 8, it was revealed that a replacement was chosen as Cardinal Robert Prevost, 69 – who’s papal name is Pope Leo XIV – making him the first American pope in history.

With the changeover, many have questioned how much the Pope makes.
Being the head of the Roman Catholic Church does not earn him a traditional salary, like you or me.
The Vatican, being the world’s smallest independent country, provides for his human needs such as accommodation, food, healthcare as well as travel and security.
The Pope is then entitled to a modest salary of around $2,500 per month but Pope Leo, like his predecessor, has decided to refuse this salary and gift it to those who need it more.
Despite this, Francis’s net worth including all his assets and Vatican-paid services, was around $12 million.
The Vatican receives its income from donations, investments and revenue from tourism as well as the Vatican Museums.
Its most famous income is of course Peter’s Pence – the annual collection from Catholics collected globally, with the largest contributions coming from Germany, Italy and the United States.
The internet went wild, scouring Pope Leo’s previous tweets, one of which reads: “As Trump & Bukele use Oval to Feds’ illicit deportation of a US resident, once an undoc-ed Salvadorean himself, now-DC Aux +Evelio asks, ‘Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?’”
It was also reported by The Independent, thay Prevost shared: “There is nothing remotely Christian, American, or morally defensible about a policy that takes children away from their parents and warehouses them in cages. This is being carried out in our name and the shame is on us all.”
He had also hit out at VP JD Vance, after resharing an op-ed from the National Catholic Reporter called: “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
The name in reference to comments made by Vance in February on Fox News: “There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world.
“A lot of the far left has completely inverted that.”
In response, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope. It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope.
“What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country.
“I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very meaningful moment!”
